The province’s Ministry of Labour and the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the death of a 67-year-old man who was trapped in a corn silo at a farm south of Ottawa on Feb. 4.
The OPP said that first responders were called to a farm on County Road 7 in North Dundas Township at about 2:30 p.m. on that day.
“Firefighters and community members worked to try to remove corn as quickly as possible,” provincial police said in a release.
Police said “life-saving measures began” when the victim was located, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The Ministry of Labour was notified and is investigating with the OPP, but the death is not considered suspicious,” OPP said in a statement.
In a release, the labour ministry confirmed a ministry inspector had been assigned to investigate the accident.
“It was determined that the (farm owner) was unable to shut down equipment, which led to the fatal injury. The ministry extends its condolences to the family. As the investigation is ongoing, we are unable to provide further information at this time.”
Police did not release the victim’s identity.
