Though Ottawa coach Travis Green didn’t have a lot of information to share about the club’s top goaltender after the club’s skate on Friday at the Canadian Tire Centre, he did pass along good news that Ullmark was on the ice for the first time since he suffered a back injury on Dec. 22.
“We’re hopeful,” Green said when asked if he expected Ullmark to return to practice anytime soon. “I get asked the question a lot about Linus and it’s not like we’re trying to hold back information.

“When you’re dealing with a back, sometimes it takes more time than others. He skated a little bit on his own today, but I wish I could give you more.”
No, that’s not much, but it’s a positive sign. Ullmark hadn’t skated since he left in the first period of the club’s 3-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers in the final game before the National Hockey League’s mandated holiday break and has been listed as week to week.
Losing Ullmark has been a blow after the club recorded a 9-3-1 record in December. The Senators have lost six of their last seven games and four straight as they face the Penguins.
Ullmark was 8-0-1 in nine games before his injury with a 1.48 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage.
